A native of California, I've been taking pictures for as long as I can remember. Whenever a little bit of money came along and an opportunity to take pictures, I'd buy a roll of film and see if I could do any better than the time before. Some time after moving to Oklahoma, a DSLR was purchased for me and I began seriously teaching myself photography. I left Oklahoma for North Carolina when it became apparent that it held my best opportunity to make it as a photographer.
The majority of my time taking pictures has been spent in zoos, prairies, and forests, trying to overcome the physical limitations of the camera for split-second opportunities, or finding just the right spot for just the right angle. As it turns out, these skills transfer well to photojournalism with the unexpected nature of people in their natural habitat.
